The cricket match between Jaffna Hindu College and Kokuvil Hindu college known as “Battle of the Hindus” was held succesfully on 18th and 19th of march 2011 at the Jaffna Hindu College ground.The match commenced on 18.03.2011 at about 9.30 in the morning, after worshiping at the Gnana Vairavar temple in the school and hoisting the flags, as customary.
The match started with both captains called in for tossing, Jaffna Hindu won the toss and put Kokuvil Hindu to bat first. In the first inning Kokuvil Hindu college scored 293 runs for 9 wickets. The top scorers for Kokuvil Hindu in the first inning were Pankujan (101 runs) and Uththamakumaran (93 runs).
In return Jaffna Hindu came into bat and at the end of the first day Jaffna Hindu got 82 runs for 6 wickets. And the team captain Senthuran with 26 runs was forewarded to the following day.
On the second day Jaffna Hindu started loosing the wickets fast. The successful batting of the JHC Captain, Senthuran came to an end at his 31st run by a bowl delivered from Rahulan. Jaffna Hindu College managed to get 92 runs loosing 8 wickets.
Anojan and Kirishoban both played a good partnership. Kirishoban played well and both shared 54 runs for the 9th wicket partneship. Kirishoban got out at his 32nd run for a ball off Ragulan's hand. Jasminan who came in next left the ground without scoring any. Rahulan from Kokuvil Hindu took Jasminan's wicket. So.the first innings came to an end with Jaffna Hindu having 149 runs on hand. Anojan was the top scorer for Jaffna Hindu, he got 28 runs without loosing his wicket. At the end of first innings Kokuvil Hindu was leading Jaffna Hindu by 144 runs.
After a short break, Jaffna Hindu was called to follow on their second innings. In the second innings too Jaffna Hindu started loosing early wickets. When the game was paused for interval Jaffna Hindu was in a critical situation having lost 2 wickets for 12 runs. After the interval also wickets of Jaffna Hindu were falling in a quick series. Thereafter, Parthipan and Kirishoban made a solid partnership and lifted the team for a while. They shared 41 runs for the 8th wicket stand, Kirishoban scored 21 runs and parthipan scored 28 runs. The players who followed them could not shine well and the team managed to get only 108 runs in the second innings.
Finally, the Kokuvil Hindu won by an inning and 36 runs. Through this Kokuvil Hindu has recorded a remarkable history as the first team to win the innings match in the total of four matches played between both schools. All three previous matches ended in draws.
